Awards

I have entered several art competitions over the last three years and I find that it really helps me focus when you know that your work is to be judged and hung alongside other competent artists. So although the pressures are great, such as a time-frame constraint, when you win a competition, then your work naturally receives more attention. This coupled with the challenge to my skill set, means I have a keen interest for entering competitions.
  • En Plein Air Art Comp - Winner

Huon Art Exhibitions Group (HAEG) - Cygnet 2004

Open air competiton constrained by 2 days of painting time, where the artists are asked to work outside in front of their subject. Light and weather variations, insects and wind all test the artists to their limits, and with only 24 usable hours and fierce competition, only the most diligent of artists can acheive success. The area to paint was restricted to a 10 km radius around Cygnet, and the canvas or paper were stamped on the rear for authenticity on the first day of competition.
The results were judged by Richard Bacon and Roger Murphy.
  • Watermark Art Competition - Winner of People's Choice

Huon Art Exhibitions Group (HAEG) - Cygnet 2005

A competition where the subject was based on the word 'watermark'. Over two hundred entries were received, with artists able to enter two pictures. Richard received the most votes from the public for this painting and amazingly he also received the second most votes for his second submission titled 'Cygnet Bay'. This artwork is one of the most popular limited edition prints.
  • En Plein Air Art Comp - Winner of Best Pastel

    D'Entrecastreaux Channel Enterprises - Woodbridge 2005

Open air competiton constrained by 2 days of 'canvas time', where the artists are asked to paint outside in front of their subject. This competition was more challenging than usual due to the large number of showers which bombarded the artists. The painting which won 'Best Pastel' is the artwork on the left, and is currently for sale, and has an interesing story behind it - click here for more information.
