Wineglass Bay
"East Coast - Tasmania" - an original oil on canvas painting - 80cm x 60cm
On the East Coast of Tasmania near
Freycinet Peninsular is this spectacular
bay with its shoreline running in a
perfect arc, hence the name of this bay.
As well as the overall view I was drawn
to the large boulders on the right, particularly with the shadows cast by the light above. The distance in the valley behind this rock outcrop gives a real sense of space between the foreground and background. I paid particular attention to the tones used to illustrate depth, for example the lighter tones of the hill behind the boulders give a strong impression of distance.
Materials
The tools and materials I used during the production of this canvas are as follows:- Windsor & Newton oil paints thinned with Archival Odourless solvent
- Two coats of Gesso primer composed of plaster and white acrylic paint
- Sixteen shades created from a palette of sixteen tertiary colours
- Painting medium mixed with oils to create sheen on the final canvas
- Stretched canvas over timber frame
- Framed in a champagne gold frame with insert by Luke Wagner
- Sable long-haired fine pointed rigger brush - tip size 1mm
- Eight Hog hair brushes - varying sizes 3mm - 20mm
- Single pure bristled blending brush - size 80mm
- Vegetable gum non-porous renewable paper palette
- Italian Beechwood full-size professional studio easel
